India needs a CEO style President like President Biden to lead

We have seen around the world political leaders practice only political behaviour. Many leaders around the world took the Trump approach to their politics. Nationalistic talk, drum beating and mercilessly slandering of their opponents.

What we have not seen is the kind of management capability the President Biden has focused on since he vied to become president.

It would seem that if any person has too much focus on their image, they have no time to manage. Management is not micro-management or looking to apply or withhold resources for political gain. Dictatorial leaders have a tendency to look at management in terms of what is best for their immediate needs.

What President Biden has aptly demonstrated is the ability to be a great manager, or CEO of the United States government. As he always said, it’s all about getting the right people. In fact, all successful CEO’s have that one trait in common. The ability to put the right people in the right jobs and to be a leader.

Leadership is all about asking the right questions, putting the right people on the job to get the answers and building consensus with the team. Ultimately a leader listens hard and sets goals based on facts and an understanding of the problem.

President Biden has proven himself to be that kind of leader. I think the world will watch. I mean the people. They will come to the conclusion that they too want to have a CEO type of leader. Not a dictator, not a celebrity and not a politician in the nasty sense of the word.

By focusing on getting the job done, and President Biden has said that many time, it’s all about work. A working leader is a leader that does things. Take a look at Elon Musk. He is very successful at leading and doing. He knows what he wants, knows details and takes chances. President Biden, although not a commercially oriented person has those same qualities but with much experience in the political realm that helps him navigate the treacherous Washington landscape.

There has been plenty of management by wishful thinking and depending on luck. Donald Trump is the worst example of a leader. As it has been said many of times, everything he touches dies. Many leaders saw how he ascended to the Presidency and decided that it was a good formula. What they should really think about is where the Donald is now and what his legacy is.

India’s President Modi will suffer the same fate as Donald Trump due to his handling of the Pandemic and authoritarian tendencies. The love of nationalistic authoritarianism will come crashing down as the bodies and incompetence pile up. There will be no place to hide.

Indians are a proud people and have a high level of tolerance. When they reach their breaking point they can break in to dolling out instant justice. I suspect that President Modi will have a hefty price to pay if he doesn’t stop playing politics and instead gets down to business managing the country for the people. He won’t be President for very long if he doesn’t move quickly.

The people of India are probably already looking for their own President Biden and will recognise him when he appears on the political scene. It will be interesting to see how the world’s largest democracy will react when and if this happens.
