Poem: Nothing the more deeply felt

This is a poem about losing a mother, which I am sure is a universal feeling.

NOTHING THE MORE DEEPLY FELT
THOUSANDS PERISH SORROW FLOWS
GALAXIES COLLIDE STARS VANISH
THOSE FEELINGS OF LOSS PREVAIL

THE KNOWLEDGE OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION
UNFOLDS BEFORE OUR EYES AND WE SEE
THE TIME IS LOST IN LASTING MISERY

HUNDREDS OF TIMES FROM YOUNG TO OLD
WE LEARN OF THE LOSS IN VARIOUS WAYS
NEVER TO BE SO DISTRAUGHT LESSEN AS IT WERE
EACH DAY THE NEWS HERDS IN OUR MINDS

TO FLOW FROM FEELING TO THOUGHT
THEN OUT AGAIN WE RESUME OUR STRIDE
PLAINLY TO SEE FROM THE OTHER MIND
LAUGHTER MIXES THE EMOTIONS CLIMB

THEN ONE DAY THE DREAD OF ALL FEELINGS
TO FEEL THE STARK AND SHARP PAIN
TO KNOW THAT MY BEGINNING HAS ENDED
MY MOTHER’S PASSING DEEPNESS FELT

THAT HUNDREDS DIE AND THOUSANDS PERISH
THAT CALAMITIES SHAKE THE WORLD ABOUT
THAT FRIENDS AND NEAR BY PEOPLE DIE
NOTHING PREPARES US FOR THE LOSS OF MOTHER

NO NOTHING CAN FILL THAT EMPTY VOID
A MOTHER IS THE PLACE WHERE WE FIRST DREAMED
THE PLACE WHERE WE FELT THE WORLD OUTSIDE
WHERE OUR FIRST CRY LEFT OUR LIPS

THE LOSS OF A MOTHER FOR SURE
NOTHING THE MORE DEEPLY FELT
